Good afternoon ! I’d love to have a ‘basic’ biscuit and/or bread recipe. I’m not into baking but we go through a lot of both so thought it might save some money.
** Recipes please

Our favorite biscuit recipe is from a Better Homes and Gardens cookbook. It does call for cream of tarter but everything else you probably gave in you kitchen. I will post that recipe, called Biscuits Supreme, as well as their Baking powder biscuit recipe, which is also good.

Biscuits Supreme
Combine 2 cups flour, 4 tsp. Baking powder, 1/2 tsp. Each salt and cram of tarter, plus 2 tsp. Sugar. Mix well then mix in 1/2 cup shortening or butter until it resembles course crumbs. Make x in 2/3 cup milk. Knead the dough a few times then roll or hand press out on a floured surface to about one half inch thick. Cut into biscuits. Bake on ungreased baking sheet at 450 for 10-12 minutes. Makes 16 medium biscuits.
Baking Powder Biscuits
Combine 2 cups flour, 3 tsp baking powder, Mix well, add 1/3 cup shortening or butter, mix until like coarse crumbs, add 3/4 cup milk. Proceed to mix cut and bake as the Biscuits Supreme.

@amanneredfool what a great tradition for you both. I love the recipe and that cookbook. I sometimes shred some extra sharp cheddar-a generous amount-and gently knead it into the biscuit dough for cheddar biscuits as a special treat.

This is the recipe that I use for buns, bread, hotdog buns, hamburger buns and cinnamon rolls. So easy and the baked product is amazing

best recipe I use is 2 1/2 cup self rising flour, 1 cup heavy cream or 2/3 cup whole milk and 1/3 cup butter.Mix and roll out 1 inch thick.Cut in biscuits.Bake 400 for 10-12.Top with melted butter.
