Recipes for Dried Beans, Pasta, and Canned Goods from Food Bank

I found on Pinterest lentil curry. It’s really good and I usually serve with rice. The recipe makes a bunch and it freezes well

You can freeze soups. You can soak beans overnight. Cover with water. My momma taught me to soak beans, covered in water. Always said bad beans would rise to the top. Also suppose to lessen cooking time Rinse beans, cover with water, use a deep pan. I cook in the crockpot. I add chopped onions, season with salt and pepper, ham hocks or ham, or a bit of garlic powder.
Remember beans will double in size. Ex: cook 4 cups dry beans you get 8 cups when cooked.

Another option: cook a whole bag. And freeze. Pop in the microwave or wait till thaws. Put in larger bowl and back in microwave.
Just the 2 of us so this is what we do. Same with chili. Can use kidney beans…. With or without hamburger meat.

Lentil sloppy joes, vegetables or beans soup, pasta salad. I am sorry I don't have a recipes but you can Google them.

A tip for the dried beans. Soak them in water overnight. Then dump the water. This will drastically reduce the cook time, and lesson the chance of ending up with crunchy beans. Then use as you wush

For lentils, google mujadara.
For beans/green beans:
Fry 2-3 onions. Add your beans(pre-soaked for 12 hrs minimum and drained), one cinnamon stick, salt and pepper. Cover with water and let to cook. When cooked, add tomato paste and let them boil for around 10 minutes.
Enjoy with rice aside

Bean soup, pea soup, add veggies ...see if you can get a butcher to give you beef bones for bean and ham for split pea...too much to type, look on line, compare what you like and have at it...you can use fresh, canned or frozen...you can put celery stalks and pull out pre serving, or celery salt (same for any spice), salt pepper, mushrooms, meat, carrots, potaties. Bullions & water, brorh, cream base...nervious, canned/boxed soup/direction and add vegs...if prepared soup, cook the raw vegs in water & use that water to make soup.

If your using canned veggies to add to the beans for soup, add the veggies in the last 10-15 minutes, otherwise they will be too mushy or disintegrate 😮 from experience.. 😂

Lentils with garlic, leek or onion cooked in tomato sauce and water is tasty. You could make curries too. Split pea soup is also tasty (little celery, onion, carrot, garlic & a ham hock or smoked turkey wing), with the canned veg, you could make a fried rice. Watch some YouTube, FrugalFitMom, SeeMindyMom & Julie Pacheco all have some great videos with recipes for what to make when things are tight.
