Seeking the Ultimate Mashed Potatoes Recipe for Thanksgiving – Share Your Best!

Boil them with milk.... You don't have to drain it and it comes out creamier and after you add some real butter and sour cream it comes out tasting better

I like twice baked potato casserole. Take mashed potato, add bacon bits, green onion and cheddar mix all together, top with more of the add ins and bake in the oven at 350F until top is golden brown.

Hint...if I find my mashed potatoes get a little thick after they sit for a while, I save out some of the water that I boiled the potatoes in (starch water)and will add a little at a time to my mashed potatoes...even with my leftovers I'll make a little "bowl" in the middle and fill with a little of the starch water...

Peeling potatoes isn’t hard!
Slice potatoes
Boil til soft
Drain well
Add half n half
Lots of real butter
A big dollop of sour cream
Plenty of salt
A little Garlic powder
Mash with mashed or use a mixer but don’t over mix. You don’t want to end up with starchy glue!
Taste. You might need to add more cream or salt
Or you can use gold potatoes and you dont have to peel. Same recipe just don’t use mixer. Mash. These will be lumpy. Also add pepper and maybe some Parmesan
Please don’t buy store mashed potatoes for thanksgiving 🤷‍♀️

I can tell you that I just learned not to whip with hand mixer. Makes them gluey. A "ricer" is recommended but I imagine a masher would still be good.

Oh, and "dry" all water off cooked (back in pot, low heat and stir until moisture evaporated or spread on cooking sheet in oven for a bit until water evaporated) potatoes before adding your butter and such. Tip from watching Martha Stewart years ago.

Cube potatoes and boil in salt water for 15 minutes. Add one stick of butter, salt and pepper and evaporated milk. Using a mixer cream until smooth. Delicious.

I put butter and sour cream in mine season to your liking make sure the milk is room temperature so you don’t shock the potatoes and add it slowly and don’t over beat the potatoes that can get them waxy…also a small container of sour cream fyi

This is a family favorite of ours:
Loaded Potato Casserole
4 pounds russet potatoes , mostly peeled and chopped into cubes
2-3 tsp minced garlic to taste
5 Tbls butter
1 cup sour cream
1/2 - 1 cup heavy cream or milk (amount depends on how creamy you like it)
2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
1 package Bacon, cooked and crumbled
1 Tbls salt (approximately, adjust to taste)
1 tsp black pepper
1/4 cup green onions , finely chopped
Instructions
Add potatoes to a large pot. Fill with water, so the potatoes are completely covered. Bring to a boil, and cook for 15-20 minutes, until the potatoes are fork tender. Drain.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Mash potatoes. Sir in butter, sour cream, and heavy cream and minced garlic. Mash further if necessary to get to your desired consistency. Season with salt and pepper. Stir in 1 1/2 cups cheese, and bacon (reserve some for the topping).
Pour into 13x9 in baking dish. Sprinkle with remaining cheese and reserved bacon. Bake for 20-25 minutes until hot and cheese is melted.
Sprinkle with green onions before serving.
