The Best Main Course Cabbage Recipes – Affordable & Healthy!

As a personal, I don’t add the sugar. I take the bacon out when it’s done….crumble it and add it back just before serving. I don’t add the oil. I leave some of the bacon grease & add 2 T butter for flavor and fry the cabbage.

Cabbage and noodles:
Cook 1lb bacon in a skillet until crispy, set aside. Chop cabbage and sauté in bacon grease.
Crumble bacon and mix with cabbage.
Add cooked egg noodles to cabbage/bacon and season with salt and pepper as desired. 🤤

Crunchy Oriental Chicken Salad.
Melt a couple spoonfuls of butter in a frying pan, add Oriental ichy ban seasoning packet, and then break the raw noodles into the pan in bite sized pieces. Cook til it starts to turn golden. Set aside. Chop or shred some cooked chicken. In a big bowl, mix 1/4C sugar, 1/4C vinegar, and some pepper. Toss in the chicken, a bag of coleslaw, canned mandarin orange segments, sliced green onions, and add some of the crunchy seasoned noodles on top. I don't mix them all in at once or they turn soggy, and I store them separately if there's leftovers so they stay crunchy.
Cabbage n apples with sausage is another fave. Core apples, throw in a pot with a bit of liquid. Apple juice/water, and add some spices. Cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves. Can add some citrus or brown sugar if you want. Simmer til apples have softened but are still firm enough to hold their shape when sliced. In a pan, fry some sausages, brats work good. Can keep them whole or butterfly them. Dont have to cook them all the way as they will be heated up a 2nd time. Set aside when ypu see fit. Thinly slice half a head of purple cabbage, toss in the pan, along with some S&P, apple cider vinegar, a splash of the liquid from cooking the apples, some thinly sliced onion, and a spoonful of butter. Cook it down til the cabbage starts to soften and add the sausages back in. Let the cabbage and sausages finish off and heat through, add the sliced apples too and bon appetite! The guy I'm with hates cabbage - and sausages, but he'll eat this haha and it's filling. A batch of perogies is definitely not necessary, but they're cheap, they would go well together and make it go even farther if needed.

Or, Borscht. I just use whatever veggies I have on hand really, garden veggies are the best, and lots of beets and cabbage of course - with a spoonful of sour cream (milk works in a pinch) and some fresh dill on top!

Cabbage roll soup! It’s amazing.
Cabbage and sausage
Fried cabbage and your choice of meat. Yesterday I used venison chops that I diced into slivers. Added onion, brown sugar, garlic, soya sauce and paprika.
