The first thing they need to get is a beach wagon to carry groceries home in. It will allow them to purchase more things in bulk stretching their dollars further. Food gets heavy FAST and unless their grocery store has handheld baskets or half sized carts it's super easy to load up the buggy with more than you can easily carry more than a block. Using canvas tote bags instead of plastic bags will save ALOT of headaches too. They don't make those bags like they used to and there is nothing worse than having your bag rip halfway home.
The one that got me through and now my daughter is ground beef or Turkey with Italian seasoning add rice and tomato sauce.
Or another one our daughter likes is ground meat or shredded chicken with taco seasoning on it add rice n lettuce automatic taco bowl.
Knorr rice or pasta with their choice of ground beef, cut up chicken or pork chop makes a really simple "Helper". I quickly grew bored of the standard hamburger helpers and that provides a bit more variety.
You could do omelette’s in a bag! You could have bowls of diced ham, cheese, veggies, whip up eggs, put a big pot of water bring to a boil drop baggies. I get the freezer bags quart size add a ladle of egg, add the items you want in the bag put it in the boiling water cook for about 2 minutes.
Sausage Veggie stirfry is easy and healthy.
In large skillet, place:
1 pkg Polska Kielbasa sausage, sliced.
Any mix of frozen vegetables you prefer. I like broccoli & cauliflower, but any veg will work.
Hash browns or tater tots, or a large potato cut in bite-sized cubes.
1/2 cup beef broth. Salt, pepper & garlic powder to taste.
Simmer in the broth until veggies are tender.
Love a tater tot casserole!!!
1lb of ground beef, diced onion & peppers (peppers are my preference but not needed), garlic (powder or minced), cream of mushroom soup, shredded cheese, and tater tots, and butter.
Butter a casserole dish
Brown the meat with the onions, garlic, and peppers
drain meat & pour meat in dish
stir in cream of mushroom
sprinkle a layer of cheese
layer on tater tots
* layer of cheese on top is good too!
Bake at 350 for 30-45 minutes! Cheap and Easy (
@srur I do this but sometimes use cream of potato soup instead of mushroom, also throw a layer of corn or green beans (or whatever you prefer honestly) in between the soup and cheese
Bag of frozen meatballs. Place in a pan. Mix 1 can cream of mushroom soup, 1 can beef broth, 1 pkg onion soup mix and 3 Tbsps worchestire sauce and some black pepper. Pour over meatballs. Bake in oven for 30 mins at 350 F. Meanwhile cook about 2-3 cups pasta( whatever kind you want). When pasta is done drain. When meatbells are done mix pasta in. It’s very good and easy with little prep! Good luck to the students! Practice makes perfect. We all started somewhere
Salsa chicken! 1 jar of favorite/preferred salsa dumped over chicken, cook at 350 un the oven until chicken is done (about an hour, maybe a little longer if chicken is frozen) and serve. I like to get uncle Ben's ready rice to microwave and call it a day
I'm not sure if it has a name so-
pasta
marinara
Alfredo
mozzarella
boil your noodles, strain, put noodles back in your pot. mix in a jar of marinara sauce and Alfredo sauce(or add to your liking), you can add meatballs if you'd like for protein but add the noodles into a pan, add cheese on top, bake, easy and tasty meal.
Classic grilled cheese and tomato soup……. Highly recommend by my newly 18 year old who’s freshly graduated herself
They can add the precooked bacon slices to the grilled cheese inside or even slicked tomato if they like those as a delicious spin on a classic!
You each are doing fantastic, this can be a scary and confusing time however you are doing this and kicking butt along the way. Never give up on yourselves, keep following your dreams and doing what makes you happy! You all are the future of our world and we are so proud of each one of you
Seasoned diced chicken
Cooked crumbled bacon mixed with rice. Use whatever sauce you want to add or none at all. Throw in veggies if want or eat as is. Very yummy
Baked potatoes with chili on top. Wash potatoes (russet), bake at 400 for one hour. Just set them on the oven rack. Warm a can of chili, top potato with chili, shredded cheese and chopped onions.
Take thin sliced chicken breast and marinate in ranch dressing(overnight for best flavor but don't have to) and bake at 375 for 20 mins. Serve with any side
