Tips for Cooking Boneless Pork Shoulder in Dutch Oven (No BBQ Sauce)

Cook in a crockpot with sauerkraut on low all day. Comes out tender and delicious. We put the sauerkraut over mashed potatoes.

@joylynn77 we put thick slices of potato on bottom, brown the pork in skillet and put on top of potatoes, stuff kraut around sides of pork, put a few slices of green apple on top of the pork and then some brats or German sausage on top. Fill in gaps with more kraut and pour Reisling wine over it. Cook on slow all day. Make some brown gravy and add a spoon of sour cream to it. So delicious!!

@tiffanyc92 I don't drain the Kraut but the brand I get doesn't have a lot of liquid. I buy Hengstenberg brand at Big Lots. A jar is about 2 bucks and it's packed full! Authentic Bavarian kraut. The gravy is served on the side, you can put it on any part of it you'd like.

@crumpjrau I prefer red or yellow potatoes because the white ones can get mushy in the crockpot when cooked for a long time. I also like to add carrots and plenty of onions and garlic. You can use beer, rootbeer, ginger ale, or coke if you don't want to use wine. Any liquid will do. Kraut is definitely good but also not necessary. I've done it with and without. Pineapple juice is great with pork! I've dumped in a can of crushed pineapple with juice, but not with kraut. That would be too much acid. If you do the pineapple juice, I would also add ginger. I think that I did ginger ale and pineapple. Lots of options.

Chop an Onion, add Rotel, Garlic Powder and salt. Cook low and slow. When done, shred, serve on a flour tortilla with shredded cheese and salsa
